PM Modi Inaugurates New Jodhpur Airport Terminal, Launches Revamped UDAN Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and launched the revamped UDAN scheme, marking a major push to strengthen India's regional aviation network and improve air connectivity across the country.
Modi arrived in Jodhpur to a warm welcome from Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Union Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Following his arrival, the Prime Minister formally dedicated the new airport terminal to the nation and inspected the state-of-the-art passenger facility.
The newly built terminal has been developed at a cost of ₹480 crore and covers an area of more than 23,000 square metres. Designed to accommodate nearly 20 lakh passengers every year, the facility features upgraded infrastructure, improved passenger services and modern amenities aimed at enhancing the travel experience.
Inspired by Rajasthan's architectural heritage, the terminal incorporates traditional design elements such as grand arches and ornate jharokhas while combining them with contemporary airport infrastructure. Cultural performances by local folk artistes were also organised to welcome the Prime Minister during the inauguration ceremony.
During the event, Modi also unveiled the modified UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which has been allocated ₹28,840 crore over the next decade. The revised programme seeks to expand regional air connectivity, improve access to underserved and remote areas, strengthen aviation infrastructure and support the next phase of India's aviation-led economic growth.
The government said the upgraded UDAN initiative will focus on connecting more cities through affordable air travel while encouraging balanced regional development, boosting tourism, creating employment opportunities and making air transport more accessible to people across the country.
