PM Modi Mourns Padma Shri Awardee Dr DY Patil's Death at 90

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his condolences on the death of Dr D. Y. Patil, former Governor of West Bengal and Bihar. Modi said Patil was at the forefront of serving society through philanthropy and education, and worked to improve the lives of others, especially the poor.

Dr Patil, a Padma Shri awardee, was a noted educationist, philanthropist and Governor who passed away in Maharashtra's Kolhapur at the age of 90. He was born on October 22, 1935, and received the Padma Shri in 1991 for his contributions to education and public service.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also condoled his death, calling it an "irreparable loss" to Maharashtra and the academic community.
