Police invoke MCOCA against gang duping people of ₹86 lakh with Cambodia links

Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against a gang accused of defrauding people of ₹86 lakh through an organised scheme. The accused include a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine (BHMS) student, two Chartered Accountancy (CA) aspirants, and a techie with links to Cambodia.
The trio allegedly operated a sophisticated cyber fraud operation targeting multiple victims. Investigators found evidence of coordinated activity and systematic methods used to dupe people, which led authorities to classify the case under organised crime provisions.
The police arrested all three accused and are conducting further probe to identify additional victims and recover the defrauded amounts. The involvement of individuals with technical expertise and international connections has widened the investigation scope.
