Vikhroli Teen Dies By Suicide After Alleged Harassment at Matrimonial Home; Surat Man and Parents Booked
Police in Mumbai have registered an FIR against a Surat-based man, Nihal Vairagi, and his parents on charges including abduction and abetment of suicide. The case follows the death of a 17-year-old girl from Vikhroli who allegedly took her own life after facing harassment at her matrimonial home.
The girl left her family home in Parksite, Vikhroli West in June 2026 without informing anyone. She later told her elder sister that she had met Vairagi, 20, through Instagram and undergone a purported Vedic marriage at a temple in Surat. She then stayed with Vairagi and his parents.
According to the police, the girl alleged that Vairagi and his parents frequently harassed her, accusing her of not doing household work and repeatedly asking her to leave. She returned to her maternal home in Vikhroli on September 5 and reportedly detailed incidents of harassment to her sister.
