Arbitral Tribunal Awards ₹180 Crore to Ludhiana-Sangrur Infra Road Against Punjab Government

An arbitral tribunal comprising retired IAS officer Alok Nigam (Presiding Arbitrator), Kamlesh Kumar (Co-Arbitrator), and Manoj Kumar Bansal (Co-Arbitrator) issued an award on May 24, 2026, directing the Government of Punjab to pay approximately ₹180 crores to M/s Ludhiana-Sangrur Infra Road Private Limited. The amount includes GST and pendente lite interest, with an additional 15% annual interest from the award date until payment.
The dispute arose from a concession agreement dated February 11, 2015, under which the company operated and maintained the Ludhiana-Malerkotla-Sangrur Road for seven years ending September 4, 2022. The tribunal found the Punjab government breached its contractual obligations and accepted the claimant's main contentions.
The tribunal rejected all counterclaims by the respondent, including damages of ₹10 crores and 18% annual interest claims. The law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas represented the company in the arbitration.
