Punjab's marginal farmers embrace 'gharelu bagichi' model beyond wheat and paddy

Marginal farmers in Punjab are increasingly adopting the 'gharelu bagichi' or home garden model to diversify their agricultural output beyond conventional wheat and paddy crops. This approach allows small landholders to cultivate vegetables, fruits, and other crops on limited plots, improving income and food security.
The model represents a shift in agricultural practices in the state, where traditional cereal cultivation has long dominated. By incorporating kitchen gardens and diversified cropping patterns, marginal farmers are better positioned to respond to market demands and reduce dependency on a single crop cycle.
