Punjab police bust Pakistan-linked terror module, seize weapons smuggled via drones

Amritsar Rural Police have dismantled a Pakistan-linked terror module and arrested a 28-year-old truck driver identified as Navjot Singh, alias Cheema. Police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades, nine live cartridges, a magazine and a motorcycle from his possession.
Investigations revealed the weapons were smuggled into Indian territory via drones from Pakistan-based handlers linked to the ISI and another handler in the Middle East. Singh was instructed to transport the materials to a neighbouring district and meet another person through an intermediary, with promised payment of Rs 50,000.
The operation highlights a pattern of foreign-sponsored terror networks using local operatives, social media and drone smuggling to destabilize Punjab ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. Police say multiple such modules have been busted during 2026 crackdown operations.
