Putin sees 'very big potential' in India ties, praises Modi's Ukraine peace ideas
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to seek an end to the Ukraine conflict, saying that he has "good ideas" for achieving a peaceful resolution. Speaking at the Valdai Club forum, Putin noted that Modi is among world leaders who, despite strong bilateral relations, "constantly raises the question" about ending the Ukraine conflict.
Putin said Prime Minister Modi has been actively working to find mutually acceptable solutions to the Ukraine conflict and possesses "very good ideas aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions." He acknowledged that while Modi takes a neutral position, he maintains a genuine interest in resolving the conflict. "I think it's my duty to say that directly. And we are thankful to the Prime Minister for his ideas," Putin stated. He further expressed gratitude for Modi's "desire to put an end to this conflict through peaceful means and as soon as possible."
The remarks reflect Moscow's appreciation for India's diplomatic engagement on the Ukraine issue. Modi and Putin last met in September during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, where they discussed strengthening trade ties and cooperation in infrastructure, energy, technology, defence and culture. Prime Minister Modi has consistently called for peace, maintaining that India has upheld a principled and humanitarian approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
