Rahul Gandhi Hits Out At Delhi University Over Jantar Mantar Advisory, Says Students Cannot Be Threatened For Raising Their Voice

Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a sharp attack on Delhi University after the institution advised students and faculty members to avoid participating in demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, calling the advisory an attempt to intimidate students exercising their democratic rights.
Reacting to the university's post on social media, Gandhi questioned the warning issued to students and said educational institutions should not discourage peaceful democratic participation. He wrote, "How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes."
The controversy erupted after Delhi University issued an advisory cautioning students and faculty against joining unlawful gatherings or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. Referring to Supreme Court guidelines governing protests in the area, the university said participation in such events could attract legal consequences and urged students to prioritise their personal safety and comply with the law.
The advisory also warned that involvement in such protests could adversely affect students' academic progress and future professional prospects. Additionally, the university appealed to students to remain cautious of misinformation circulating on social media, stating that misleading content was being used to escalate tensions.
Rahul Gandhi's criticism comes amid the continuing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led agitation at Jantar Mantar over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The protesters have been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while the issue has also sparked repeated confrontations between the government and the Opposition inside Parliament.
