Rahul Gandhi Suggests Rajya Sabha Role For Siddaramaiah Amid Karnataka Leadership Buzz

Fresh political speculation has surfaced in Karnataka after senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reportedly suggested that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah consider moving to the Rajya Sabha amid ongoing discussions over the state’s leadership future.
According to sources, Siddaramaiah told Rahul Gandhi that he currently has no ambition to shift towards national politics, though he is believed to have sought time to think over the proposal.
The development comes after Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar held a high-level meeting with the Congress leadership in Delhi, triggering renewed buzz over a possible power transition in Karnataka.
The meeting was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala.
Political discussions intensified after reports suggested the Congress high command may be exploring options regarding Karnataka’s future leadership arrangement and whether Shivakumar could eventually take over as chief minister.
However, the Congress leadership moved swiftly to reject speculation of any immediate leadership change.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, KC Venugopal insisted that the discussions focused only on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and Karnataka Legislative Council polls.
He said the meeting revolved around election strategy and candidate selection and denied reports of any conversation linked to a leadership reshuffle in the state.
“There is no reality at all to such speculation,” Venugopal said while dismissing the reports.
He further stated that the names of candidates for Karnataka’s Rajya Sabha and Council seats would be announced along with nominees from several other states.
Despite the official denial, political buzz around Karnataka leadership equations has continued to grow, especially amid the long-running speculation over a possible rotational chief minister arrangement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar after the Congress returned to power in the state.
The latest developments are being closely watched as the Congress attempts to balance internal leadership dynamics while preparing for upcoming elections and strengthening its organisation ahead of future national political battles.
