Joe Root surpasses Steve Waugh's record, moves closer to Tendulkar and Anderson

England batter Joe Root has surpassed Steve Waugh's longstanding record by playing in his 169th Test match. The milestone was reached during the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, where England won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Root now stands closer to the all-time records held by Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. England is seeking a clean sweep in the series and has fielded the same XI for three consecutive Tests, a notable occurrence since 2010.
