S&P projects 12-14% credit growth in India despite rural stress risks

S&P Global has projected credit growth of 12-14% in India's financial sector, though it has flagged concerns about rural credit expansion. Weak monsoons could impact agricultural earnings and compound credit challenges in rural areas.
Despite these headwinds, India's economic activity remains resilient, supported by strong capital positions of banks and lenders. Public investment continues to be steady, while private investment is concentrated in select sectors and showing improvement.
The rating agency has pegged inflation for FY27 at 5.1%, noting that global factors pose additional challenges to the growth outlook.
