Reliance Jio Denies BGP Hijacking Allegations, Asserts Compliance With Global Standards

Reliance Jio has issued a statement categorically denying allegations of BGP route misconfiguration linked to disruptions on Telegram. The denial came after Telegram founder Pavel Durov accused the Indian telecom operator of sabotaging access to the messaging app for millions of users outside India, including in the UAE, through a technique called BGP hijacking.
In its statement, Jio said it has not been involved in any such incident and continues to operate its network in accordance with global Internet routing best practices and highest standards of reliability, security, and transparency. Durov had suggested the alleged sabotage could be part of competitive rivalry, pointing to Reliance's relationship with Meta, parent company of WhatsApp, Telegram's main competitor.
