Rock check dams boost water security in Ladakh's arid region

A pilot initiative has installed five rock check dams along the Sindhu River and its tributaries in Ladakh to enhance water retention in the region's arid landscape.
The project aims to address water scarcity challenges in Ladakh's Himalayan cold desert, where agriculture depends heavily on seasonal water availability. The check dams are designed to capture and store runoff, improving groundwater recharge and supporting farming activities.
This infrastructure initiative represents an effort to strengthen water security and boost agricultural productivity in the challenging terrain of Ladakh.
