Vijay Mallya owes ₹8,751 crore to bank consortium, SBI tells Bombay HC
The State Bank of India has informed the Bombay High Court that fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya remains indebted to a bank consortium for ₹8,751.86 crore as of August 31, 2026, in connection with the Kingfisher Airlines case. SBI filed an affidavit opposing Mallya's plea challenging the attachment of his assets linked to an Enforcement Directorate money-laundering investigation.
According to SBI, the consortium had temporarily recovered ₹10,269.96 crore, with ₹8,135.63 crore still remaining to be recovered excluding legal costs. The bank said 52,84,978 equity shares attached in the case remain intact and unsold. SBI termed Mallya's criminal application "completely misconceived" and sought its dismissal, stating recovery proceedings are ongoing.
