Supreme Court seeks clarification on vacancies in state human rights commissions

A Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, has issued notices seeking responses on the state of vacancies and operational status of State Human Rights Commissions across the country.
The notices were issued following a petition filed by the Association of Retired Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts of India, represented by advocate Srishti Agnihotri. The bench's action highlights concerns about the functioning of these constitutional bodies tasked with protecting human rights at the state level.
