Supreme Court 7-judge bench may close legislative privilege case after 23 years

Nearly 23 years after Tamil Nadu assembly passed a breach of privilege resolution against journalists, the Supreme Court is set to hear the case. The resolution had imposed a 15-day sentence on some journalists, but has since been withdrawn.

Senior advocates argued before the 7-judge bench that the writ petition's cause of action no longer exists and the matter has become academic. Based on these submissions, the Supreme Court is expected to dispose of the petitions.
