Supreme Court sets aside bail for Sonam Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya honeymoon murder case

The Supreme Court has set aside the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. A Division Bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and Prasanna B. Varale ruled that grounds of arrest cannot be questioned in subsequent bail applications after earlier rejections on merit. The Court, however, allowed her to file a fresh bail application if the trial remains inconclusive beyond six months.
Sonam Raghuvanshi is accused of murdering her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. According to prosecution, the deceased's body was pushed into a gorge with help from three accomplices allegedly hired by the respondent and her romantic partner. The body was recovered on 2 June 2025 from a deep gorge. She faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
The appeal was filed by the State of Meghalaya challenging orders from the trial court and High Court that had granted her bail. Raghuvanshi was arrested on 9 June 2025 in Uttar Pradesh following a missing person complaint filed by the deceased's brother.
