SC Judge Seeks Replacement of Rajasthan HC Acting Chief Justice Over Misconduct Allegations

Supreme Court Justice Sandeep Mehta has written to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant requesting the appointment of a Chief Justice from another state to the Rajasthan High Court "with immediate effect". In three letters dated 2nd, 10th and 17th August, Justice Mehta accused the High Court's acting Chief Justice, Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, of "maladministration" and "malpractices".
Justice Mehta alleged that Justice Sharma misused his administrative powers as master of the roster by selectively moving cases to his own bench without justifiable cause. He claimed that cases involving influential or wealthy litigants were being handled in ways that raised concerns about the High Court's functioning. Justice Mehta said he had earlier raised these concerns with the CJI, who assured him of "suitable action" but his request for a replacement Chief Justice remained unaddressed.
