Tamil Nadu caste discrimination case: SC man's burial marred by exclusion

The Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission has sought a detailed report from the Erode District Collector and Superintendent of Police regarding an incident of alleged caste discrimination during the burial of a Scheduled Caste man.
The Commission has also asked officials to clarify what disciplinary action has been initiated against police and Revenue Department personnel who allegedly failed to take preventive measures to stop the discrimination during the burial ceremony.
The case highlights concerns over the implementation of provisions meant to protect Scheduled Caste communities from social exclusion and discrimination, particularly during funeral and burial rites, which remain sensitive touchpoints in caste relations in several parts of Tamil Nadu.
