Supreme Court grants Mahua Moitra relief in circuit house row, calls 4-day rule retaliatory

The Supreme Court has granted relief to Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in her dispute with the West Bengal government over circuit house accommodation. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi questioned the state government's 4-day occupancy rule, describing it as potentially retaliatory.
The court directed Moitra to provide one-day advance notice when she visits her Krishnanagar constituency, rather than comply with the stricter 4-day requirement imposed by the state administration. The bench expressed concerns about the proportionality of the state's restriction on the MP's use of government accommodation facilities.
This order marks a significant development in the ongoing tension between the Trinamool leader and the Suvendu Adhikari-led state government over access to official residences during parliamentary constituency visits.
