Madras HC Restrains Media From Sensational Coverage in Child Abuse Case

The Madras High Court on Friday restrained media outlets, YouTube channels and digital platforms from misrepresenting facts in a high-profile child sexual abuse case involving industrialist Veeramani of Gem Granites. Justice V Lakshminarayan said there are "things more important in life than TRP ratings" while hearing concerns about media trial.
The order came after English TV news channels shared screenshots from a video clip showing alleged abuse. Chennai Police registered a case over the video leak. The court acknowledged press freedom but emphasised that rights come with corresponding duties owed to both children and the accused, cautioning against media trial practices.
The court directed an all-women Special Investigation Team to issue weekly updates on investigation progress to keep the public informed.
