SC gives EC 4 months to decide Trinamool faction dispute over party name and symbol

The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to resolve the dispute over the Trinamool Congress party name and symbol within four months. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant ordered rival factions led by Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee to file their affidavits within four weeks.
The Election Commission had previously requested six months to decide the matter. The court's order sets a firmer timeline for the poll panel to adjudicate on which faction has the legitimate claim to the party's original name and symbol.
