Supreme Court to examine legality of facial recognition and biometric surveillance at Jantar Mantar

The Supreme Court has agreed to examine the legality of facial recognition and biometric surveillance measures deployed at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
A petition filed before the court claims that since the sit-in began at the protest site, thousands of protesters, journalists and ordinary citizens have been subjected to continuous and pervasive biometric surveillance.
The matter raises concerns about privacy rights and surveillance practices at public gathering spaces during demonstrations.
