Shiv Sena Split: Six MPs to Join Eknath Shinde Faction, Strengthening NDA

Six Lok Sabha members from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) have formed a separate group and will join Eknath Shinde's faction on June 19, the party's 60th foundation day. The move, part of 'Operation Tiger', has been recognized by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. This development significantly strengthens the ruling NDA in Parliament.
The NDA's Lok Sabha strength will rise to 319 seats with this addition, following earlier support from 20 TMC rebel MPs. However, a two-thirds majority for constitutional amendments requires 363 seats, leaving NDA 44 seats short. Nonetheless, the increased numbers provide a stronger parliamentary position for passing key legislation.
In the Rajya Sabha, NDA is already approaching two-thirds majority after gaining 24 of 27 seats in recent unopposed elections. Upcoming elections in 12 states on June 18 are expected to further consolidate NDA's position, reducing dependence on opposition support for constitutional matters.
