SKUAST-K develops fine grain aromatic rice variety for Kashmir farmers

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K) has developed a fine grain aromatic rice variety tailored for Kashmir Valley farmers. The development is significant because Kashmir lies outside India's traditional geographical area designated for Basmati rice cultivation.
The new variety aims to provide Kashmir farmers with an aromatic rice option suited to local growing conditions, potentially boosting agricultural productivity and farmer incomes in the region.
