Supreme Court orders ban on NCERT Class 8 textbook, initiates contempt action

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has ordered a "blanket and complete ban" on an NCERT Class 8 social science textbook, stating it contains content showing a "deep-rooted conspiracy" to portray the judiciary as corrupt. The CJI declared that "heads must roll" in connection with the matter.
The Supreme Court has initiated contempt proceedings and issued a show cause notice to the NCERT director and the School Education Secretary. The action follows concerns raised about the textbook's portrayal of judicial institutions.
