Supreme Court Criticises Banks for Casual Approach to Large Loans, Strict Treatment of Small Borrowers

The Supreme Court has criticised banks, particularly SBI, for adopting a casual approach toward large loans while imposing stringent conditions on individual borrowers. The court noted that ordinary people face what amounts to borderline harassment during loan processing, contrasting sharply with the leniency shown to major borrowers.
The bench urged banks to adopt fairer and more equitable lending practices that do not discriminate against smaller borrowers. The observation highlights concerns about disproportionate treatment in the banking system and calls for more balanced loan approval procedures across all borrower categories.
