Supreme Court moves to curb 'digital arrests', directs RBI to tackle mule bank accounts

The Supreme Court has tightened rules to prevent unlawful 'digital arrests' — a practice where individuals are coerced into surrendering digital devices or credentials. The court has issued fresh guidelines to address the misuse.
In a related move, the RBI has been directed to prepare a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure for managing bank accounts that are opened or used to receive and transfer proceeds of cyber fraud. The directive aims to strengthen the banking system's ability to detect and prevent the misuse of accounts for criminal activity.
