Supreme Court Seeks Response on Delhi Metro Station Closures During CJP Protests

The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Union and Delhi governments, Delhi Police, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on a petition challenging the closure of 17 Delhi Metro stations during Cockroach Janata Party protests in Central Delhi over NEET-UG 2026 question paper leaks. A three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant issued the notice on the plea filed by Delhi resident Sparsh Kant Nayak.
The petition argues that the metro closures, citing security concerns, severely affected commuter movement and impacted the public's right to move freely. It questions whether any statutory procedure existed for such closures and notes that the decision was communicated via social media.
Justice Joymalya Bagchi said the court would intervene only if the Executive's discretionary powers were found to be grossly disproportionate. The court agreed to examine whether the metro closure decision was within reasonable limits and served public interest.
