Supreme Court Denies Bail to Jaipur Serial Blast Convict

The Supreme Court has rejected bail for Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, convicted in connection with the 2008 Jaipur serial blasts. The court stated this is not an ordinary bail matter but involves terrorism, national security, and public safety.
Azmi was convicted for planting a live bomb at Chandpol Market during the May 13, 2008 serial blasts in which 9 bombs were planted across the city—8 detonated and 1 was defused. The trial court sentenced him to life imprisonment in 2025.
A special court in Rajasthan High Court had convicted four terrorists—Azmi, Saifur Rahman, Mohammad Kaif, and Shahbaz Ahmad—in the 18-year-old case and awarded life sentences to all.
