Supreme Court intervenes on relocation of 135-year-old Delhi library with 8.5 lakh books

The Supreme Court has registered a suo motu case regarding the relocation of a 135-year-old Delhi government library housing 8.5 lakh books, titled "In Re: 135-Yr-Old Library 8.5 Lakh Books– And No Room In The New Central Vista Plan". The case was filed on October 3.

The primary concern centres on finding suitable accommodation for the library and its collection if Shastri Bhawan, its current location, is demolished as part of Central Vista redevelopment. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Central Public Works Department are reportedly still searching for alternative space.
