Supreme Court issues notice to Centre, Punjab on RTE implementation failure
The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre and Punjab government over the failure to implement provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. A public interest litigation by Jagmohan Singh Raju highlighted that the RTE Act's mandate requiring 25% quota for children from weaker and disadvantaged sections in schools remains largely unimplemented in the state.
The petition noted that despite RTE being among the key platforms on which the Aam Aadmi Party gained national prominence, the quota provision has not been effectively enforced in Punjab schools.
