Supreme Court orders Vatika to pay ₹1 crore compensation to homebuyers for decade-long delay

A Supreme Court bench led by the Chief Justice of India has ordered real estate developer Vatika to pay ₹1 crore in compensation to four homebuyers who have waited over a decade for possession of their properties.
The order came despite prior directives from the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA). The bench's intervention highlights enforcement gaps in India's real estate regulation even after RERA's implementation.
The case underscores persistent delays in residential project completions and highlights the judiciary's role in protecting homebuyers' interests when regulatory bodies prove insufficient.
