Supreme Court rejects plea to replace hanging with lethal injection as execution method

The Supreme Court has rejected a petition seeking to replace hanging with lethal injection as the method of executing death row convicts in India. The court found no credible evidence to support the claim that lethal injection causes less pain than hanging.
The bench examined arguments that lethal injection would be more humane, but concluded that the existing method of capital punishment by hanging remains the legally mandated procedure under Indian law.
