Supreme Court may transfer Satya Niketan building collapse case from Delhi High Court

The Supreme Court indicated on Thursday it may transfer the Satya Niketan building collapse case from the Delhi High Court to itself. Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah stated the court is concerned about the entire country and that the broader focus would be on commercial use of residential areas in Delhi-NCR.
A five-storey building collapsed in south Delhi's Satya Niketan on September 6, killing seven people and injuring five. Police arrested the 75-year-old building owner Urmila Gupta, her 81-year-old retired IAF officer husband Hariram Gupta, and their 52-year-old son Mahesh Gupta. Investigation revealed a wall was demolished on the ground floor to construct a shop, triggering the collapse.
Following the incident, the Delhi Municipal Corporation intensified demolition operations against dangerous structures, unauthorised construction, and building code violations across all 12 zones of the capital.
