Supreme Court takes suo motu cognisance of Central Secretariat Library space crisis

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the space crisis facing the Central Secretariat Library, a 135-year-old heritage institution that faces eviction as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project. The library, established in 1891, is one of India's oldest cultural institutions.
The apex court's intervention comes after the library's predicament came to light through recent news reports. The library currently has no allocated space within the new Central Vista project, leaving its future uncertain amid the ongoing redevelopment initiative.
The Supreme Court's suo motu action seeks to address the plight of this heritage institution and determine an appropriate resolution to ensure the library's survival and continued operation.
