The Cockroach Janta Party has welcomed the Supreme Court's clarification on First Information Reports registered during student protests. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das called it a major victory for students and young people, noting that states including Delhi would be free to withdraw or close protest-related FIRs through legally permissible procedures.
The court clarified that criminal antecedents refer only to involvement in serious offences such as murder and rape, not routine participation in political demonstrations. Das said this ensures students and regular protesters will not face long-term legal difficulties, with FIRs expected to be closed.
The party welcomed the court's oral pronouncements while awaiting the detailed written order. The final legal position will depend on the written judgment and subsequent action by state governments.
