Tamil Nadu's Cauvery water receipt in July hits 50-year low
Tamil Nadu's water receipt from the Cauvery river in July fell to a 50-year low, with the state receiving only 0.698 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet) against its stipulated share of 31.24 tmcft. The Biligundulu receiving station recorded the minimal allocation, falling significantly short of the state's entitlement.
The sharp decline underscores growing water stress in the Cauvery basin, a critical resource for Tamil Nadu's agriculture and drinking water needs. The issue has long been a point of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over river water sharing and dam releases.
