Tamil Nadu: Dalits Forced to Prostrate in Caste Dispute Over Burial Ground

Two Dalits in Perumpalli village near Erode district were allegedly forced to prostrate before dominant caste members following a dispute over access to a burial ground, police said.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between caste groups in the region over control of community resources. The forced act of prostration is considered a severe form of caste-based humiliation and violation of dignity.
Police have registered the complaint and begun investigation into the matter. The case underscores persistent caste-based discrimination in rural Tamil Nadu, despite legal protections against such practices.
