Tamil Nadu Raises Crop Loan Waiver Limit to ₹75,000; Announces ₹5,932 Crore Relief Package

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced an expansion of the state's crop loan waiver scheme on Tuesday, raising the relief limit from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 for small, marginal, and other farmers who borrowed through cooperative banks. The decision came after farmers' organisations and political parties urged the government to broaden the scheme's scope.
The revised package, worth ₹5,932 crore, covers crop loans obtained between May 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026. Farmers whose outstanding loans exceed ₹75,000 will receive additional financial assistance of ₹35,000 each. The expansion follows a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister with officials from agriculture, cooperation, finance, and planning departments.
