Tamil Nadu launches Mission 2036 with Rs 1,051 crore sports push

Tamil Nadu's 2026-27 budget has earmarked Rs 1,051 crore for sports development, marking a significant push to build a structured athlete pathway. The state has launched two flagship initiatives: Mission 2036 and Vision 8-18, designed to identify and develop sporting talent from school level onwards.

The plan includes setting up 10 new Olympic Centres of Excellence and establishing residential training facilities for promising athletes. The state also proposes to develop an Olympic City as part of its long-term vision to strengthen India's sporting infrastructure and competitive edge.
