Tamil Nadu government scraps Parandur airport project citing farmer opposition
The Tamil Nadu government led by the TVK party has scrapped the Parandur airport project in August 2026, citing strong opposition from farmers and ecological concerns. The airport site had been finalised during the previous DMK regime in 2022.
The decision comes after sustained pressure from farming communities in the region who opposed the project over land acquisition issues and potential environmental impact. The government cited both farmer resistance and ecological considerations as key reasons for abandoning the plan.
