Karnataka complies with Cauvery water release order, tells Supreme Court
Karnataka has informed the Supreme Court that it is complying with the Central Water Management Authority's (CWMA) direction to ensure a water flow of 9,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu for a 15-day period. The CWMA had issued this directive on August 25, following a recommendation by the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee.
In response to the state's compliance statement, the Supreme Court has asked Tamil Nadu to challenge the CWMA decision if it wishes to contest the water release order. The matter pertains to the ongoing distribution of Cauvery river waters between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, a long-standing inter-state water dispute.
