Telegram's editing feature cited as reason for India's block ahead of NEET-UG retest
India's National Test Agency blocked access to Telegram citing a specific technical flaw in the messaging platform. The NTA identified Telegram's editing feature — which allows users to modify messages after sending — as a vulnerability that scammers exploit to create false evidence of exam paper leaks.
The block was implemented ahead of the NEET-UG retest, as the agency sought to prevent potential misuse of the platform in spreading unverified claims about question paper breaches. The editing capability enables users to alter message content while maintaining the original timestamp, making it difficult to distinguish authentic communications from fabricated ones.
