Telegram Used for Terrorist Activities, Centre Tells Delhi High Court

The Central Government informed the Delhi High Court on Thursday that Telegram is being used for multiple criminal activities including terrorism communications, cyber-crimes, drug trafficking, child exploitation and fraudulent activities. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the government, stated that the issue has national security implications beyond the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam suspension.
Mehta highlighted that Telegram's architecture, particularly its bot infrastructure and automation features, can be exploited for disseminating leaks and terrorist propaganda. He noted that law enforcement authorities in other jurisdictions have raised similar concerns about the platform's operational structure and difficulties in enforcing laws.
