Tharoor Condemns Government Over Rahul Gandhi's Detention at EC March

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has strongly criticised the central government over the detention of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a protest in the national capital against the Election Commission of India. Tharoor called the action "disgraceful" and said he was "horrified" after seeing images of Gandhi being "manhandled and dragged off to detention" during the INDIA bloc demonstration.
The protest was directed at alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision process. Opposition MPs were stopped from marching from the Parliament complex towards the Election Commission office to raise their concerns. Tharoor, who was in Berlin attending a conference and unable to attend the protest, emphasised that demonstrating at a time when "Indian democracy is being ravaged by the disenfranchisement of 130 million voters" is necessary to stand with citizens whose constitutional rights are allegedly being violated.
Despite his physical absence from the capital, Tharoor extended his support from abroad and expressed confidence that "justice will prevail."
