TMC MP Mahua Moitra approaches UN over alleged exclusion of Muslim officers in West Bengal

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has approached the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, alleging that three senior Muslim officers in West Bengal were excluded from official engagements during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visits. The officers named are Siliguri Police Commissioner Waquar Raza, West Bengal Police STF chief Jawed Shamim, and IAS officer Khalil Ahmed.
Moitra has filed an urgent appeal with the UN body, citing India's obligations under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. She claims the exclusions constitute religious discrimination by both West Bengal and Union government authorities.
However, concrete evidence substantiating the allegation of religious motive has not been publicly presented. The case hinges on the inference that the officers' Muslim identity was the reason for exclusion, rather than protocol, administrative responsibilities, security arrangements or the nature of specific meetings.
