TMC's Rejinagar bypoll candidate withdraws from race, then reverses decision

Rabiul Alam Chowdhury, the TMC's candidate for the Rejinagar bypoll in Murshidabad, announced his withdrawal from the contest on Wednesday, citing difficulties in mobilising party workers who face regular harassment. Speaking to reporters at his home, he stated that maintaining morale among grassroots activists had become challenging.
However, the former MLA later retracted his withdrawal statement, reversing his earlier announcement. The sudden reversal raised questions about the circumstances prompting both his initial decision and subsequent change of mind.
The development comes as the Rejinagar seat remains a focal point in West Bengal's political landscape. The bypoll assumes significance in the state's ongoing political contest.
