TMC symbol freeze proves no room for dynasty in politics: Banerjee

West Bengal assembly opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee responded to the Election Commission's interim decision to freeze the Trinamool Congress name and election symbol, saying it demonstrates that political parties cannot be treated as private institutions or advanced through dynastic succession.
Banerjee said party leaders learned of the EC order unexpectedly upon landing from a flight, calling it a surprising development. He stated that the commission's interim order proves there is no place for dynastic politics and that political parties are not private limited companies with hereditary succession.
The EC has directed rival TMC factions to select new names and symbols pending final resolution of the dispute. The decision will impact the scheduled assembly by-elections in Nandigram and Reginagar constituencies on 6 October.
